Preschool is a new experience for our youngest students. We recognize that for child and parent, transitioning from home to a school environment is often a big emotional step. We work with our families to bridge the gap from home to school in a way that offers guidance to a continued good self-image while encouraging social, emotional, physical, academic, and spiritual growth for the child.

Based on the theory that children learn through play, classroom routines encourage active involvement, meaningful experimentation and reinforcement through repetition. Schedules are designed which balance structure and free choice, as well as active and quiet times. We treat each child as an individual, working from the level each child has attained and moving forward one step at a time. We foster a love for learning by allowing children to experience their own stage of development and helping them to feel success without pressure.

2's and Young 3's Classes

Our youngest students are provided with many opportunities to grow. We work with them in a variety of ways on fine and gross motor skills, social/emotional skills, and verbal/language skills. Two-year-olds are active and curious. We arrange our curriculum in a way that accommodates the high energy and curiosity that are trademarks for this age group. Children are introduced to a variety of skills and concepts, without pressure, through games, music, stories, and creative exploration as they become developmentally ready. Children do not have to be potty-trained for these classes. When parents are ready to approach this process, we are glad to work alongside them to help the child reach this goal. The classroom has an attached restroom with sink and child-size toilet. The 2’s class size is limited to 11 students and the Young 3's Class is limited to 12 students, both with two teachers.

3’s and Young 4’s Classes

Young children learn best by doing. Learning isn’t just repeating what someone else says; it requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work. The 3’s and Young 4's classes use a variety of curriculum materials to provide a balanced program in all skill areas. Structured and free play activities encourage growth in social and emotional skills, fine and gross motor skills, and cognitive skills. Children participate in developmentally and age appropriate fun activities that introduce and advance pre-literacy skills involving alphabet letters and letter sounds, colors, shapes, counting, sorting, sequencing, patterning, and pre-writing. From a social/emotional aspect, children are guided in learning how to share, take turns, wait patiently, and have positive interaction with peers. Independent skills are encouraged through showing children how to clean up after themselves, put on their own coat, place their finished projects in their individual cubby, along with many other opportunities, to grow their self-confidence and self-esteem. Our 3’s and Young 4’s classes participate in computer activities, weekly music/movement classes, additional enrichment classes offered, chapel time, and daily outside playground time. Children attending a 3’s or Young 4's class MUST be toilet-trained prior to the first day of school. Both classes have a maximum of 13 students with two teachers.

Pre-K Classes

In our Pre-K classes, we work with children on skills that prepare them for kindergarten. We continue to encourage growth in their social and emotional maturity. At this age, we focus on helping them learn to work with others, wait for turns, follow directions, lengthen their attention span, develop self-discipline to complete tasks, among others. These are important skills that will be needed when students move on to the more structured, academic-focused grades in school. For language arts, our Pre-K classes use Scholastic’s “Alpha-Tales” curriculum to increase student knowledge about the alphabet and letter sounds, including recognizing upper and lower case letters out of sequence in a variety of written materials, writing lower case letters, and recognizing letter sounds at the beginning and end of words. For children who master these skills, both orally and written, usually toward the end of the school year, phonetic decoding skills are introduced that will help them begin reading very simple words and independently writing words. We have adopted the “Handwriting Without Tears” method of introducing Pre-K students to letter formation. The math curriculum used is “Everyday Mathematics”, a well-recognized curriculum developed by the University of Chicago that provides a concrete, hands-on exposure to early math concepts. Pre-K classrooms are equipped with computers and classes participate in music/movement classes, additional enrichment classes offered, outside fieldtrips, monthly science labs, chapel time, and daily outside playground time. At this age, we recognize that children are still progressing at varying skill levels. We continue to focus on each child as an individual and help them to advance one step at a time. Throughout the day, students move through a variety of learning centers and small and large group activities that are presented in fun, creative ways to accommodate individual learning styles. We want your child to leave Pre-K with positive feelings about himself/herself and learning. As a result, your child should be ready and eager to continue on in school. Class size is limited to 16 students with two teachers.

Spiritual Growth For All Classes

Redeemer is a Christian school. Daily instruction in each classroom is taught with a focus on non-denominational Christian values and learning about the relationship of God in daily living. Each preschool class is taught basic Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments in the Holy Bible, along with participating in Bible-based chapel times led by the school director, church pastor, and director of children’s ministry. Our program recognizes and celebrates the birth of Jesus at Christmas and His resurrection at Easter.

Special Programs

During the course of the school year, we will invite our parents to join us at several special programs such as our Thanksgiving Feast, Date with Dad, Mother’s Tea, and Spring Sing where your children will entertain you and enjoy showing you their classrooms. 

Additional Information

• Preschool classes begin each fall on the day after Labor Day. They end around the third week of May. In between, we follow the Gwinnett County Public School calendar for school holidays.
• All children who attend the 3's, Young 4's or Pre-K classes MUST be toilet-trained and independent in taking care of their bathroom needs PRIOR to the first day of school. This does not apply to the Young 3's class.
• We enroll students throughout the year in all of our preschool classes provided space is available. Students wishing to enroll in a Pre-K class after January will be considered for enrollment if they have been attending another Pre-K program since the beginning of the current school year.
• Registration for the next school year begins in March of the current school year.
• Lunchtime is a part of the daily schedule in each class. Children bring a packed lunch from home. Lunches should be ready to eat and cannot be refrigerated or heated.
• We offer a morning carpool dropoff for students age 3 and older. We ask parents to come to their child's classroom for afternoon pickup.
• We welcome parent participation at Redeemer and encourage our parents to be an active part of this special time in their children's lives.
• We hold mid-year parent/teacher conferences for our 3's, Young 4's, and Pre-K classes to share our observations with you about your child's developmental progress in school.
